Introducing DMT IAAN: lighter, freer, more gravel

DMT takes another step forward, setting its sights even higher. This time, on gravel. At the International Bike Festival in Misano, the Verona-based company unveiled its new DMT IAAN, designed for riders who want to go beyond the limits of asphalt without venturing into extreme off-road terrain. A shoe developed for mixed-surface riding, combining speed with comfort and lightness.

Dimple Tech Technology

The mesh used in the IAAN upper is not simply a material, but the starting point of the entire project. The goal was to create a transparent, lightweight and contemporary structure, with a strong focus on innovation and performance.

For this reason, DMT selected a new hexagonal-structured mesh that is not only visually distinctive, but also serves as a technical and functional pattern inspired by the aerodynamic efficiency at the heart of Dimple Tech technology.

What is Dimple Tech? It is a technology inspired by the aerodynamics of micro-structured surfaces, such as those found on golf balls. The micro-dimples optimise airflow, reducing drag and improving efficiency at high speeds. Applied to footwear, this translates into surfaces engineered to improve airflow continuity and support the athlete’s performance. In other words, the “golf-ball” texture is designed to maximise the shoe’s aerodynamic efficiency, with the Dimple Tech logo clearly visible on the upper.

DMT’s new gravel model therefore combines an eye-catching aesthetic, drawing inspiration from some of the most advanced materials used in the hiking, approach and trail worlds, with an immediate sense of lightness. The transparent mesh allows the light weight of the product to be perceived even before the shoe is picked up.

Its functionality, however, goes well beyond appearance. The combination of materials (PA + TPU) provides structure without adding unnecessary weight, ensuring stability, breathability and a consistently fresh feel.

The DMT IAAN will be available in White/Lilac and Sand.

Sole and details

The IAAN also features a new outsole, offering improved grip thanks to more effective lugs and a softer rubber compound that enhances traction and walkability. Its modern, technical design introduces shapes and textures specifically developed to optimise stability and performance on the mixed terrain typical of gravel riding.

Compared with road models, the IAAN toe area is reinforced to provide greater protection and withstand the frequent impacts encountered when riding off-road.

The closure system combines a BOA Li2 dial with an asymmetric configuration. The aim is to reduce pressure points across the instep, improve comfort throughout the ride and provide excellent adjustment precision.

On the side of the shoe, three faces are clearly visible, each representing a different state of mind. The new IAAN is designed to perform “in every condition.” This is not only about weather and terrain conditions — dry, wet, mud and beyond — but also about your own state of mind: whether you are happy, tired or lost in thought, you put on your shoes, get on the bike and ride. Because sometimes, simply moving forward is already a way of finding yourself again.

The DMT IAAN is already available to order from the official website, with deliveries starting from September 18.
